What is Yom HaAtzmaut?

Yom HaAtzmaut is the Hebrew name for Israeli Independence Day (Literally: “Yom” = day, “Ha” = of, “Atzmaut“= independence).

This is a special day to celebrate the anniversary of the date in 1948 when the modern state of Israel was established. 2018 is extra special because it is Israel’s 70th birthday!

In Israel, festivities begin the evening before this holiday, and continue throughout the day with outdoor parties & celebrations of our Jewish heritage and culture, enjoying time in nature and at national monuments and parks, and festive meals with family and friends. The holiday culminates with an official ceremony at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and includes the lighting of a ceremonial torche for each of the 12 tribes of Israel.
