The Inzu Y’Abana Preschool

CBB’s Global Justice Committee has been focused on building a preschool in the village of Gisenyi, Rwanda.  We have partnered with various community organizations as well as our friends in Rwanda and have identified a need for a preschool to serve the young children of Gisenyi, Rwanda.  Frederic Ndabaramiye, a 1994 Rwanda genocide survivor, has been back to CBB on two occasions to fill us in on the progress of this project.

Frederic brings with him a true story of survival.  At the age of 15, Frederic lost his arms when rebels tied him up and cut them off with a machete.  Frederic managed to survive and spent over a year recovering in a Rwandan hospital. Frederic’s focus now is on forgiveness, education and helping others in need.

He is the co-founder of the Ubumwe Community Center, where he and Zachary Dusingizimana established a center to serve the needs of the disabled in their community by providing services such as counseling, primary education and vocational training such as computer and craft making skills.  The greatest need at the center now is the establishment of a preschool to educate the youngest children in the village and prepare them for a successful transition into primary school.
