Rabbi Madeline “Maddy” Anderson

Rabbi Madeline “Maddy” Anderson is CBB’s Assistant Rabbi, where she is excited to connect with a multi-generational community and to celebrate simchot, navigate life’s challenges, and grow alongside our congregation.

Prior to her arrival at CBB in 2025, Rabbi Maddy served as Rabbi Educator and Assistant Director at Santa Barbara Hillel for three years. There, she supported UCSB and SBCC students through pastoral care, educational programming, and leadership during a time of rising campus challenges.

A native of Indiana, Rabbi Maddy earned her B.S. in Global Leadership from the University of Indianapolis before dedicating a year of service to AmeriCorps at Habitat for Humanity. She later served as Communications Coordinator at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, where her call to the rabbinate took root. Rabbi Maddy was ordained at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion, where she also earned her Master of Hebrew Letters. During her studies, she served communities across the Midwest, from Michigan to Indiana, and held key positions at the Cincinnati Jewish Community Relations Council.

Rabbi Maddy brings to CBB a deep commitment to serving individuals and families across the life cycle. Whether comforting students after the tragic events of October 7th or sitting in quiet prayer at a congregant’s bedside, she believes that “being a rabbi means being fully present and fostering an environment where people feel safe, cared for, and supported.” Her unique approach to pastoral care spans all ages—from guiding children in conversations about grief to supporting elders in their final moments with dignity and compassion.
