CBB Caring Community Manager  (CCM)

Congregation B’nai B’rith is seeking a dynamic individual to fulfill a newly created position.

The Caring Community Manager will work closely with our clergy, staff and lay leaders, and is responsible for engaging our staff and members in the sacred work of caring for each other.  We are looking for someone who can expand our capacity as a Caring Congregation.

Responsibilities include coordinating our member support efforts, being a key staff member providing member support while both leveraging and coordinating community wide resources, working with and expanding the current Caring Community Committee and increasing their reach, supporting our seniors and developing programming specifically focusing on sacred aging.

The successful candidate will have experience in case management type work, program development and execution, volunteer engagement, and have a solid understanding of Jewish life and values.  This position reports to the Membership Director.  This is a full time position and work will vary, including some nights and weekends.

 

Coordinate & Provide Member Support  (25%)

Support Clergy in Pastoral Care

Meet weekly with Clergy to review pastoral care needs

Follow up with members as needed

Coordinate Emergency/On-going Issues Support

Meet with members who are facing medical or financial needs

Coordinate with case managers/social workers and other resource groups in the community as needed

Develop a resource group of members

This group would be available to help members in times of need in such areas as: Financial management, legal, medical and other issues.

Develop other programs that would benefit members

Could include a warm line and connections with other social service agencies in town, and identifying other volunteer opportunities.

Support & Develop Caring Community Programs  (30%)

Working closely with the Cantor and Membership Director, provide staff support for the Caring Community Committee on their programs, including but not limited to:

Bereavement Support

Develop a support network of temple members who are available for families to help with Shiva Minyanim.

Be a resource for the family who has experienced a loss.

Support the volunteers who are coordinating providing meals.

Staff liaison for CBB Mental Health Initiative, including programs for teens.

Staff a Task Force on what our Caring Community future looks like.

 

Seniors Support and Programming (40%)

The CCM will work with the elderly who are not very active as well as those seniors who are quite active and interested in interacting with others.

Individual connection

Develop a system for personal contact with all members 75 and over

Connect members with existing services available in our community, such as Jewish Family Services, Center for Successful Aging, Santa Barbara Village

Develop programs to connect with Jewish seniors at local retirement homes

Develop ways we can be a support resource for our seniors

Coordinate transportation as needed, to temple programs/services

Other possibilities include: Develop an Emergency Buddy Network

Develop Sacred Aging Programs

Possibilities include:

A series on Living in The Third Third:  life after 60, physical, spiritual, emotional and financial planning

Shabbat visits – bring Shabbat to homebound members

Create a ‘seniors’ group who will plan their own programs/activities

Intergenerational programs – e.g., adopt a Bubby or Zaydie

Helping members make sacred decisions: the impact of medical technology

The above programming would often be in collaboration with other agencies

 

Team Meetings/ Support        (5%)

Participate as a member of the staff team

 

Qualifications:

At least 5 years experience in social services or program management related to social services

Comfortable being the first person in new position

Experience managing and motivating volunteers

Ability to collaborate closely with teams while also working independently and maintaining an entrepreneurial spirit to take advantage of new opportunities and ideas

Ability to accurately manage numerous details of several simultaneous projects

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills

Facility with technology and database systems

Flexible schedule, with the ability to work some evenings and weekends
