Affinity Groups
Every interfaith family that considers becoming a member of CBB invariably asks the same important question: “Is my interfaith family going to feel welcome at CBB?” The answer is “YES!” We are here to support your involvement in the CBB community; and for young families, this includes help in raising children to be literate and knowledgable in Jewish culture and traditions.
Some Frequently Asked Questions:
- Does CBB have any other interfaith families?
You are in good company. About 30% of CBB member families are interfaith. - Can a non-Jewish parent come to CBB?
Yes. All members of CBB are welcome at any time, at any event, and are encouraged to participate. - Are the clergy available if we want to talk with them?
Yes. A member of the clergy is available to discuss any questions that may come up. Please call the office (805-964-7869) to make an appointment or send an email to info@cbbsb.org. - How can I contact CBB’s Interfaith Outreach Coordinator?
Our Interfaith Outreach Coordinator, Ann Pieramici, would be happy to talk with you about your questions and situation. You can contact her directly at annpieramici@gmail.com
In the Spring of 2024, CBB has established Keshet (Keshet is the Hebrew word meaning rainbow), a LGBTQ+ group.
The group is co-led by Dr. Philip Prinz and Peter Ginsberg, with support and guidance from CBB’s clergy. Keshet is dedicated to working with all LGBTQ+ members of CBB and their families and friends, to provide support and guidance, and to promote full equality, justice and dignity within CBB and the wider Jewish Santa Barbara community.
Our current goals include sharing Queer and Jewish experiences, supporting each other during challenging times, sponsoring social and educational activities, mentoring and learning from Queer Jewish youth and representing CBB at the annual Santa Barbara Pride Festival. A special objective is to create spaces in which all Queer Jewish youth can be seen and heard. This will be promoted through the support of Rabbi Daniel Brenner and OpenDor (for 20s and 30s).
For more information about Keshet please email Megan Lewis at megan@cbbsb.org.
MoBB is entirely volunteer-led, and in addition to social events, works with clergy and staff to identify projects that enrich and improve our community. If you’re not already involved, we encourage you to reach out to learn more about our group and join our email list. Just email cbbmobb@gmail.com to get started.
OpenDor is an open generation of young adults in their 20 and 30’s, seeking connection to each other and something greater than our individual selves. OpenDor is a Jewish space, not bound by walls, where community members discover their authentic Jewish selves unabashedly, non-judgmentally, comfortably aware that everyone around them is participating in the same experiment. Our participants are single, married, straight, gay, male, female, gender non-conforming, Jewish, and Jewishly curious. OpenDor seeks to push back against the painful realities of the isolation and loneliness of our generation by creating a space to encourage togetherness and community. Our original Boomers group has transformed into the new and improved Prime Timers, for everyone ages 60+. Our goal is to strengthen community, and to meet new friends while doing fun activities. If you have ideas for upcoming events, please reach out to co-chairs, Stephanie Lavine at steffielavine@gmail.com or David Fradkin at yomtov613@comcast.net.

Volunteer
CBB’s Caring Community supports members during challenging times and serves as a resource to the community to organize support for members who may not already have a support network within the congregation.
The type of support we provide varies based on the needs of those we serve. Some offerings include: making calls or visits, cooking and delivering meals and gifts, driving those who need a ride, or attending a shiva minyan.
To volunteer, request help, or to ask a question, please contact the office at 964-7869. More information is available by clicking here.
Our community welcomes volunteers to greet people before weekly Shabbat and special holiday services. Although the time commitment is minimal (we ask volunteers to arrive early to services), greeters help create an important welcoming atmosphere. Click here to sign up.
The Mental Wellness Committee at CBB supports the mental health of our community through education, relevant programing, and connection to community resources. Click here for complete information.
The Tikkun Olam Committee, formerly called the Social Action Committee, exists to support the efforts of our congregation to make this a better world. There are many opportunities to take action with other CBB members. The current Tikkun Olam initiatives are available by clicking here.
