Paying Tribute to a Real Mensch: Daniel Dunietz
By Phyllis Margolis
I want to pay tribute to Daniel Dunietz, a real mensch and owner of Yetz’s Bagels and Yetz’s Deli in Isla Vista.
Rabbi Daniel Brenner contacted him three years ago to make hot food we could serve homeless people once a month. His mouth watering mac ‘n cheese and vegetarian Indian dishes, made for 60 people, were a highlight of the month for many folks.
Daniel switched to sending bagels and cream cheese when he opened Yetz’s Bagels and then Yetz’s Deli in Isla Vista. (CBB also gets its bagels for various events from Yetz’s!)
He has donated them each month for almost two years; we now serve them at the FARO center, a daytime navigation center for people experiencing homelessness.
Daniel’s generosity and willingness to help far exceeded our expectations and we thank him for making our monthly food service to the homeless population a success.
If you’re in Isla Vista, please be sure to check out the new deli he’s opened next door to the bagel shop, which sells salads, sandwiches, smoothies and other goodies. He will also be opening a large venue by the end of this year on Hollister Ave. and Storke Rd.
